Frequently asked questions

I commenced pupilage before 1 January 2006, may I complete this in order to attend a Chartered Arbitrator interview?

You may complete your pupillage and attend a Chartered Arbitrator interview, however there will be time limits. All registered pupils will be advised of the transitional arrangements. If you have not heard by 31 March, please contact Karen Cheel [kcheel@arbitrators.org].

I am not a member but wish to become a Chartered Arbitrator, what should I do?

You must first become a Fellow. Information on how to qualify is available on this website, please see: http://www.arbitrators.org/Joining/index.asp

or make an application on the form available at:

http://www.arbitrators.org/Joining/Member_applic/Index.asp

When did the requirements for Chartered Arbitrator change?

Revisions were made to the Bye Laws which came to effect in February 2005. These resulted in the membership grade of Fellowship being separated from the qualification of Chartered Arbitrator. In view of this it was agreed that Chartered Status should be conferred only on those who had been judged to have competence and experience to serve the public as an arbitrator in an ethical manner.

How long will the interview take?

The interview usually lasts between 45 minutes and an hour.

Who sit on the Interview Panel?

It is usual for the interview, which will be carried out by three senior members of the CIArb, who are Chartered Arbitrators
