New Online Service Ensures Even Speedier Resolutions· Institute directory matches the expert to the need The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators is launching an innovative improvement to their already effective specialist nomination process for Construction Adjudicators, by making it available online. The new system allows the referring party in a construction dispute to make their request for an adjudicator online (including submitting their documentation and making their nomination payment through an encrypted software programme). This service, which will be the first of its kind for Construction Adjudication in the UK, will go live on 20th January 2003, and will be available at www.arbitrators.org/hgcra. Gregory Hunt, Manager of Dispute Resolution Services at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, said: "A key advantage of resolving construction disputes through adjudication is speed. We have taken this considerable benefit even further by ensuring that the process is as simple and accessible as possible. We have achieved this through our new online service, which also helps our customers to match need with available expertise. This is an enormous benefit to those parties wanting a quick and accurate resolution." Construction businesses and their advisors can also obtain a free copy of the Chartered Institute's new Construction Adjudication Clause via the website by visiting www.arbitrators.org/drs/clauses. The Chartered Institute has been training, qualifying and nominating adjudicators since the Housing Grants Construction & Regeneration Act (HGCRA) came in to force in 1998. In that time nearly 300 adjudicators have been trained for a number of nominating bodies and 120 have qualified for entry to the Chartered Institute's diverse panel, which includes Quantity Surveyors, Architects, Lawyers and Engineers, all with excellent knowledge of contract law. The wide range of professional expertise available within the panel has allowed the Chartered Institute to make over 400 nominations since the HCGRA came in to force, on the basis of matching the "specialist-skills" required for solving the dispute rather than simply using a generic panel of adjudicators and leaving the parties to take pot-luck on whether the adjudicator will understand the dispute. For further information on how to use the new online referral service, or for further information on the role of the Chartered Institute in Construction Adjudication, please contact Abigail Jennings on 020-7421-7458 or by email at ajennings@arbitrators.org. |
