Internships
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) internship programme introduces young professionals to the growing and increasingly specialised field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and offers a unique opportunity for post-graduate students to gain training, knowledge and practical experience in this vast and continually developing subject.
CIArb is one of the most prestigious international organisations in this area and for all those who are looking to the future and to make a successful career in the field of non-court dispute resolution, this programme is regarded to be one of the best routes to obtaining a solid foundation in the field of ADR.
At CIArb, interns are given a fantastic opportunity to learn in detail not only about the different means for resolving disputes; which take place through an excellent range of training programmes and research projects, but also about CIArb in itself, hence that you will be engaged with a variety of tasks that are designed to provide you with an overview of CIArb´s structure, culture, activities, procedures and aims. Therefore, a high level of commitment, responsibility, tenacity and enthusiasm is expected from all interns. The CIArb work experience programme provides you with an invaluable opportunity that will make you more attractive to prospective employers and help you to expand your professional network at an international level.
In addition, CIArb provides an inclusive and culturally diverse environment. CIArb staff members are a mixture of fervent professionals from a higher education background who work together as a team in a friendly yet professional atmosphere.
Overall, the CIArb internship programme aims to engage at an advanced level with the most innovative developments on dispute resolution mechanisms, to develop a broad but advanced understanding in the field of ADR and endeavours to give a rewarding experience for the intern.
How to apply
Applicants must be postgraduate students in any area and will need to demonstrate an excellent academic record.
CIArb aims to develop the brightest minds regardless of what, or where, they may have studied. Applicants must be interested in and passionate about ADR, the work of the CIArb and legal or sociological research.
All our interns are characterised for having integrity, ambition, a genuine underlying interest in the area of ADR and a desire to always do their very best for the Institute.
Applicants can come from any country, but must be able to work in the UK. Candidates are informed that they will not receive any financial compensation from CIArb for their internship and that they will themselves be responsible for meeting immigration requirements, arranging travel and accommodation and obtaining valid medical/accident insurance coverage.
Applicants must possess superior research, writing, and analytic skills, and need to be committed to the aims of CIArb. They must also be capable of learning new issue areas quickly and be highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work with a minimum of supervision to tight deadlines.
Given the size of the organisation, only a limited number of internships can be offered throughout the year. Placements are, however, possible in all departments of CIArb.
