Professional Institute

As a professional chartered institute, we support our members and others involved in dispute resolution.

For private dispute resolution practitioners

We offer potential and practising arbitrators, mediators and adjudicators, professional membership of the Institute.

We also offer education and training programmes for potential and practising arbitrators, mediators and adjudicators, and users of the private dispute resolution process, worldwide.

For users of private dispute resolution

Conflict is recognised as an inevitable and perhaps even a necessary aspect of life. However, when negotiations fail and conflicts become disputes, those involved may face catastrophic damage, not only as a result of the outcome of the issue, but from pursuit of a resolution using insufficiently qualified people or inappropriate procedures.

CIArb provides users across almost all business and commercial sectors with the confidence that our members have a globally recognised, assured level of training and experience.

Practitioners aspire to achieve the highest attainable CIArb qualifications and users demand that their professional advisors demonstrate a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the field.

For other stakeholders and interested parties

We aim to be the first point of call for all parties interested in private dispute resolution, primarily through the information provided through this website.

For members

Members have the opportunity, should they so choose, to progress through the qualifications pathway from Associate grade (introductory level) to Fellowship grade. Around half of the current members at Associate or Membership grade are aspiring to become a Fellow (Source: 2009 members' survey).

CIArb offers members of all grades a wide range of benefits - both tangible, such as discounts on products and services, to less tangible benefits such as professional added value.
