Congress
Congress is the meeting of Branch Chairmen - or their designated representatives - and an elected Representative of those members without a Branch, held every two years.
As stated in the Article 14 of The Charter, the purpose of the Congress is:
- to discuss significant issues arising in the field of private dispute resolution (PDR);
- to ascertain the views of the Branch Representatives on these and any other issues in respect of the policies, structure and management of the Institute or in the field of PDR, and to make such recommendations to the Board of Management thereon as it thinks fit;
- to elect the President, the Deputy President and the Vice President in accordance with the provisions of the Bye-laws and/or the Regulations.
Dates
The Board of Management decides the venue of the Congress, which normally rotates amongst the Insitutute's regions (Bye-Law 6.6).
2012
October/November - The Board of Management is currently considering Branch proposals/bids to host the Congress meeting and Board of Trustees meeting.
2010
19-20 October November: Heidleberg, Germany to coincide with the joint CIArb European Branch and DIS conference in Frankfurt (21-22 October) and the Autumn meeting of the Institute's Board of Trustees on 18-19th October.
2008
24th and 25th October: Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
This followed the Autumn meeting of the Institute's Board of Trustees, and the CIArb East Asia Branch Malaysian conference in Kuala Lumpa.
