The Malaysia Branch covers the whole of Malaysia, which includes Borneo, where there is a Chapter. The barnch currently has approximately 300 members.

Profile

The Malaysia Branch was established in 1993 and its membership has grown to 300.

Members come from different professional disciplines such as law, architecture, engineering, quantity surveying, insurance, property valuation and real property development. Activities are mainly focused in Kuala Lumpur with chapters in southern Johor and Kota Kinabalu.

Generally the branch's objectives are in line with the constitution's aims of promoting the use of arbitration and ADR in various fields such as construction, palm oil industry, oil and gas, information technology and rent review. The Malaysia Branch also carries out functions such as recommending to the public arbitrators for appointment.

Since its formation, the branch has conducted 16 Entry Level Courses (ELC), five Fast Track Programmes (FTP), three Arbitrator's Surgeries, Peer Interviews and interviews for Chartered Arbitrator status.

The branch maintains active dialogue with the judiciary as well as the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA), the Bar Council, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (MIArb) and the Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia (PORAM). The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has for the last seven years been inviting members to lecture on arbitration topics to its third year students. Upon graduation, they are eligible to apply as Associate of CIArb.
