The Kenya YMG formally launched on 22 September 2017 at the Fairview Hotel in Nairobi. Around 40 young members were in attendance.

The Chief Guest was Lawrence Ngugi who is the Registrar/Board Secretary for the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA). A CIArb accredited Mediator and Arbitrator himself, he read a speech on behalf of the Attorney General of Kenya Prof. Githu Muigai, who was originally due to appear as Chief Guest at the launch but was ultimately unable to attend.
On his own behalf, he emphasized the importance of networking for young members involved in the field of ADR, as well as the need for them to get more involved on the international arbitration platforms. He was open to future collaborations for young members in the form of internships at NCIA and exchange programmes with other international arbitration centres, particularly the China-Africa Arbitration Centre.
The Chairperson of the Kenya YMG, Mercy Okiro, took the members through the structure of the Global YMG and informed them of the benefits that come from being a member. She added that they should strive to attend more conferences in order to network with their peers from around the world. She closed by outlining the future activities and events planned for YMG members in Kenya.
The Vice Chair of the Kenya Chapter of the CIArb, Mr. Nderitu Mbiriri, read a speech on behalf of the Chairperson, Mr. Calvins Nyachoti. He emphasized that the Branch Committee was committed to supporting the Kenya YMG in all its endeavours.
