Currency
The currency in London is pound sterling (£). All London areas are served by cash machines. Mastercard, Visa, Cirrus and Maestro are accepted in most restaurants and shops.
Bank Opening Hours
Banks are generally open from 09:30 to 16:30 Monday to Friday. However, opening hours can differ considerably from branch to branch. All banks are closed on public holidays. Many banks have 24-hour banking lobbies where you can access a range of services via machines. Visitors from overseas should check with their own bank whether they will be able to gain access to these facilities.
Passports
Your passport or EEA National Identity Card must be valid for the duration of your stay in the UK.
Travel Visas
Citizens of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA are given, at their point of arrival 'leave to enter' the UK for up to six months. However, if you are a citizen of the EU, you do not need a visa to enter the country. Visa regulations are always subject to change, so please check with the local embassy or at www.ukvisas.gov.uk.
If you have a valid passport and UK visa, you will normally be granted entry to the UK. When you arrive in Britain your visa tells UK immigration:
- The reason you are travelling to Britain
- How long you are allowed to stay
- The last day you are allowed entry
- Entry clearance follows strict rules and procedures
Are there any Vaccinations required to visit London, United Kingdom
No specific vaccinations are required to visit the United Kingdom unless you are from or travelling through certain areas with infections. Please check this with the airline you are travelling with or your travel agent before your departure.
Opening Hours
Shops are generally open Monday to Saturday, from 10.00 to 18.00, though some stay open till 20.00 or 21.00. Thursday is the late night shopping night. On Sundays many shops open from midday to 16.00. Visitor attractions and museums typically open daily from 10.00 to 18.00.
Health
Pharmacists can dispense certain drugs over the counter - Boots is the biggest chain. Most are open standard hours, but each neighbourhood has a duty chemist that opens on Sundays. You can also turn up at the Accident and Emergency department of hospitals. For information on health problems go to www.nhsdirect.com.
Travelers with accessibility needs
Thanks to the Disability Discrimination Act of 1995, all new tourist attractions and hotels now make full provision for wheelchair users, and access to other public places has also greatly improved. All London buses (except heritage Routemasters) are low-floor, wheelchair - accessible vehicles, offering easy access for all passengers. Tipping
If you have received good service, whether in a restaurant, café or hotel, it is quite normal to leave a tip of around 10% of the total bill but check whether a service charge has already been included on your bill. Taxi drivers also accept tips of around 10%.
Smoking
Smoking is banned in all enclosed public places. This includes restaurants, bars and clubs. The Conference and Dinner venues do not permit smoking at their premises.
Lost Property
Lost property should be reported to the police. All items left on London transport, including taxis are dealt with at the TfL Lost Property office at 200 Baker Street or call +44 (0)845 330 9882.
Weather
In September the temperature will be minimum 11°C and maximum of 19°C. The minimum rainfall is 53mm but visitors should always anticipate rain.

The voltage is 240V and uses a three pin plug. International adapters are available at most airports and are available at outlets in shopping areas
Getting to London
From Gatwick Airport by rail to Central London
The Gatwick Express runs four trains an hour to Victoria Station. Single fares from £15.20 and journey time is 30 minutes.

Southern Rail operates three trains hourly to Victoria Station (going through Clapham Junction which has links to London Waterloo). Single fares from £11.30 and journey time is 40 minutes.
From Heathrow Airport by rail to Central London
The Piccadilly Line connects all terminals with Central London. Single fares are £4.50 and journey time is about an hour.
Heathrow Express runs four non-stop trains every hour to and from Paddington station. Single fares from £16.50 and journey time is 15-20 minutes.

From St Pancras International Train Station (Eurostar)
The Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria Lines all run from St Pancras Train Station. The Piccadilly Line will take you to Gloucester Road near to the Millennium Gloucester Hotel.
Single fares are £4.50 and journey time is about 25 minutes.
Underground access to Conference and Gala Dinner venues
The nearest underground station to the Millennium Gloucester is Gloucester Road (Circle, District and Piccadilly Lines).
The nearest underground station to LSO St Luke's is Old Street (Northern). Take Exit 7 when leaving the station and walk straight ahead of you - the spire of LSO St Luke's will be visible. LSO St Luke's is on the right hand side of the street.
