CIArb membership grades explained
Panel member
CIArb maintains three panels of experienced Chartered Arbitrators, Accredited Mediators and Construction Adjudicators. CIArb panels are used to help identify and nominate suitably qualified and experienced professionals who may assist in resolving civil or commercial disputes.
By joining a panel, a member has indicated that they wish to be considered for nomination as an arbitrator, mediator or adjudicator.
Application may be made to IDRS Limited for the nomination of an arbitrator, mediator or adjudicator from one of the panels or for a list of neutrals whose background and experience is suitable to the dispute in question.
Chartered Arbitrator (CArb)
Chartered Arbitrator is the highest qualification that can be attained by an arbitrator. Chartered Arbitrators are listed on the CIArb Panel of Arbitrators. A Chartered Arbitrator is a Fellow who has demonstrated to an interview panel advanced knowledge and understanding of arbitration and its practical application, evidencing a professional approach to parties and the public interest.
Fellow (FCIArb)
CIArb Fellowship denotes an individual who has completed an advanced academic programme of study or who has demonstrated an equivalent level of knowledge through his/her professional experience of arbitration or mediation.

CIArb Membership signifies:
- an individual with a good level of knowledge of arbitration or adjudication and his/her respective local law gained either through academic study or experience

Associate (ACIArb)

Please note: an individual's grade is not an indication of their suitability to act as a neutral or to advise parties. If you wish to appoint a neutral, please refer to the section on panels above.
