Exemptions

Exemptions are permitted to candidates who have successfully completed a course of study that is equivalent to a CIArb course. CIArb will only approve courses whose syllabus, assessment and quality assurance mechanisms closely match CIArb courses.

Individual exemptions apply to candidates who have completed a course in the field of non-court dispute resolution with an institution that has not been approved as a Recognised Course Provider.

Individual exemptions are available to candidates who are seeking membership of CIArb and would like their current qualifications to be considered as part of their application. We offer exemptions in Construction Adjudication, Domestic Arbitration and International Arbitration and Mediation.

To apply you must complete and attach an individual exemption form as a cover sheet to your application.

You must also ensure that all sections of the relevant individual exemption checklist documents have been completed. For an exemption checklist pack please contact the Membership department. Please complete one checklist document for each CIArb module you are requesting exemption from.

If you have a legal qualification and have studied the law of contract and tort, you may be given exemption from Module 1: Law of Obligations and Civil Evidence and Module 3: Law for Mediators.

Any incomplete applications will be logged but not processed and then returned to the candidate for amendment.

Applications must be received in hard copy and should be marked for the attention of Sue McLaughlin, 12 Bloomsbury Square, London, WC1A 2LP.
