CIArb's flagship Dispute Appointment Service (DAS) Convention returns with vigour for a fifth consecutive year, to assess the impact of technology on the ADR process, and explore how dispute resolvers can best prepare and adapt to both the efficiencies and the challenges that technological advances bring to the conduct of proceedings.
The event has been designed to gather members of the judiciary, together with a distinguished group of ADR experts, to engage in a high-level discussion on selected topics in the areas of arbitration, mediation and construction adjudication. The Convention aims to provide ADR practitioners with a forum to address and discuss practical issues associated with the role performed by dispute resolution professionals.
The theme of this year’s Convention is Technology and ADR: The Risks and Opportunities. The development of technology in the dispute resolution process has taken increasing prominence over the past year, as online dispute resolution platforms launch in the EU, and an online court system is mooted in England & Wales.
The emergence of electronic and digital filing platforms and case management tools in the last decade has further underpinned the importance technology is having on the dispute resolution process.
This Convention will ensure ADR practitioners are fully up-to-speed with these emerging technologies - which are all the more prevalent given the complexities and size of disputes today - and that they are fully prepared for the challenges and risks involved in using them.
The Convention will also look forward to the anticipated evolution of the ADR process, in the areas of arbitration, adjudication and mediation.
