05 April 2018 - 20:15

This lecture will explore the reality of arbitration in banking and financial matters today based on unprecedented international empirical research led by the speaker Professor Dr Georges Affaki C.Arb.

The speaker will critically review various arbitration initiatives dedicated to banking disputes around the world, and offer recommendations to arbitrators and counsel to take into account the reality of each field of banking and finance in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis and the risk approach in international banks towards commercial and investment arbitration. He will also analyse the prospects offered by the opening of investment arbitration to financial instruments and to banking claims, including in relation to regulatory actions in the EU and internationally.

Sir Ross Cranston FBA will introduce the topic and the speaker, and Mr Jonathan Wood, General Counsel BLME, will deliver closing remarks.

This evening meeting will be followed by a drinks reception which will provide an invaluable opportunity for participants to share thoughts and network with each other.
