Accelerated Routes to Membership (MCIArb) and Fellowship (FCIArb)

The Accelerated Routes to Membership and Fellowship provide a fast-track route for legally qualified professionals with a background in arbitration to gain CIArb membership by completing an assessment programme. The aim of the programme is to assess the range of skills needed to perform competently as an arbitrator.

The Accelerated Routes are suitable for participants from a range of backgrounds, including party adviser, advocate, judges who deal with arbitral issues or arbitrator.

You need to satisfy yourself that you have the required level of arbitration knowledge before embarking on the programme.

Accelerated Route to Membership (MCIArb)

  • For individuals who have a recognised law degree and some knowledge or experience of non-court dispute resolution
  • One and a half day assessment workshop that includes group work and individual written exercises
  • Assessment consists of a written coursework assignment and a 3-hour written examination.

Accelerated Route to Fellowship (FCIArb)

  • Specifically for individuals who are qualified lawyers and consider they have already acquired a substantial knowledge of arbitration
  • Involves attending a 2-day workshop which assesses candidates' legal knowledge and practical know-how and skill in conducting an arbitration process
  • Assessment includes group exercises and individual written exercises
  • After successful completion of this assessment, participants are required to complete CIArb's Module 4 (Award Writing) and a peer interview before being awarded Fellowship
