How to join

In order to become a member of CIArb you need to complete an application form along with payment and provide as much information regarding your qualifications and experience as possible to enable us to award you the most appropriate membership grade.

We now offer an on-line application form.

You may also apply for CIArb membership in writing (an application form can be dowloaded from this page).

In order for us to process the application we ask that you pay the membership fee for Associate membership as well as the non-refundable application fee. We will ask you for the difference if you are eligible and would like to move to a higher grade of membership.

There is no need to state which grade of membership you wish to join at on the application form. We will decide which grade of membership is appropriate on the basis of the level of knowledge and professional experience of private dispute resolution you can demonstrate.

If you have any questions or would like assistance with an application, please call the CIArb Member Services team on +44 (0)207 421 7430 or email membership@ciarb.org

Application fee

There is a one-off administration fee chargeable to cover the cost of processing your application.

This fee is £80 regardless of where you are in the world.

Membership fees

The membership fee applicable will depend on the country you are residing in at the time you make your application for membership, and will be pro rata the annual fee, depending on when in the year you apply to join (the subscription year starts 1 January).

If you are currently studying in the UK, but will soon be going back to your home country, you should pay the membership fee for the UK and advise us in writing when your address changes. If your membership rate changes we will let you know.

Your membership fee will include (where applicable) a contribution to your local branch, which will be assigned to you on admission to the Institute depending on your country/location of residence.

Your membership fee is due for renewal on the 1st January every year and will increase as you progress through the membership grades.

Reinstatements

If members allow their subscription to lapse, benefits of membership will cease. These will include the academic journal Arbitration, The Resolver magazine, access to the members' area of this website and eligilibity to vote for board, committee or Presidential elections.

If the lapsed period exceeds six months, there will generally be a reinstatement fee to pay, in addition to the outstanding membership fee.

How to pay

For those people intending to pay by credit card on-line, we now accept on-line membership applications.

We also accept payment by Direct Debit, which is taken only once a year on the renewal date (1st January), by cheque, Credit or Debit Card, bank transfer; account details available on request, or in person by visiting the Institute at: 12 Bloomsbury Square, London, WC1A 2LP.

Your membership fee should be made payable to 'The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators' and if you pay by bank transfer you must ensure that your full name and (for existing members) your membership number, is quoted on it. Please also inform us that you have paid this way.

Members should pay theirmembership fee as soon after the renewal date (1st January) as possible. This can be paid for by credit card on-line, which is accessed through Your Profile in the members' area.
