Job Title: Head of Legal Division, African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights

Areas of Expertise:

Ms Grace Wakio Kakai is currently the Head of Legal Division at the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, a continental court based in Arusha, Tanzania. She holds a Master’s Degree from the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi, a Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations from Kenyatta University.

She has over twenty (20) years’ experience as a human rights lawyer and public international law specialist who has worked with the African Union and United Nations mechanisms and various national civil society organisations based in Kenya. She has knowledge and experience working on a wide range of public international law issues with a focus on Africa.

Her foray into arbitration is a natural progression of her experience working in a continental judicial institution mandated to resolve disputes between various entities at national, regional and continental levels.
