Calling all arbitrators to participate in 8th Vis East Moot

I am pleased to invite you to participate as an arbitrator in the Eighth Annual Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The oral hearings will take place in Hong Kong from 4th to 10th April 2011. Those of you who have participated already - either in Hong Kong or in Vienna - know that it is an exciting event, and one well worth attending.

The Problem is available on the website, and as usual involves a dispute in a contract of sale subject to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). This year's competition takes place under the Arbitration Rules of the Chamber of National and International Arbitration of Milan..

Once again this year, the Hong Kong event precedes the Vienna Moot. Unlike Vienna, the Hong Kong Moot always needs more arbitrators. In most cases, we can only accept as arbitrators those who are already licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. The exception to this rule is for experienced arbitrators who have experience in other fields (such as quantity surveyors, engineers, architects, accountants). We are particularly interested in having newly Chartered Arbitrators.

If you are unable to join us in person, please consider volunteering to read Memoranda for Claimant and Respondent. This takes only a few hours of your time, in the comfort of your own home or office, in December, January and February. We count on our professional readers to provide valuable practical insights for the students. Although less visible than the Oral Rounds, the written elements are just as critical; you can make a real and valuable contribution with your comments and suggstions.
