CIArb elects new member to Board of Management

Michael Cover FCIArb, an Accredited Mediator and Chartered Arbitrator, has joined the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators' Board of Management.
As a Fellow of the Institute and a Chartered Arbitrator, Michael is one of the few people dual-qualified as a commercial mediator and as an arbitrator and brings both these skills to the Board of Management, which is responsible for all strategic business decisions made on behalf of the Institute.
Experience
Michael is the Principal of Michael Cover ADR Limited based in London, UK. He has over 30 years experience as a solicitor, both in private practice and as in-house counsel. He is an accredited mediator and has been involved in around 80 mediations. He is a full member of In Place of Strife, the Mediation Chambers.
Michael is also a member of the Sports Resolutions UK Panel (Panel of Mediators), as well as being a member of the Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators of Just Sport Ireland, the Irish National Sports Disputes Resolution body.
Areas of work
Michael regularly mediates a wide variety of disputes relating to intellectual property (patents, trademarks, designs, copyright, trademarks and domain names), IT, professional indemnity, computer law, competition/anti-trust law, sports and media, financial services and maritime disputes. He is a member of the Mediation Panel of the Court of Appeal and has mediated disputes referred from that source.
He is an active member of the European Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Institute's Practice and Standards Committee. He has recently become a Professional Member of the Disputes Board Federation.
Michael is a regular writer, speaker and presenter on ADR topics and he was the co-presenter of a workshop on mediating Intellectual Property disputes at the CIArb Mediation Symposium, 'The Key Issues and Challenges Facing Mediators', in September 2008 in London.
Michael has a particular interest in mediation of cross-cultural disputes and has mediated disputes in French.
Board of Management Chairman
The Board of Management is appointed annually by the Board of Trustees. It currently consists of 12 board members (out of a maximum 15) and meets five to six times a year.
The Institute is currently seeking applications from CIArb members for the role of Chairman of the Board of Management.
