Marking the approach of the scheme's 4th anniversary, interested parties will have a second opportunity to review the operation of The Mayor's Court Mediation Scheme at a seminar being held on Thursday, 18 March 2010 in London.
A practitioners' view of the scheme will be given by Tony Willis, a former partner in Clifford Chance and one of London's most experienced mediators. Other speakers will include the senior judge at the Court, Judge William Birtles; Allan Connarty ACIArb, Director of the CDP; and Anthony Connerty FCIArb, a member of the Steering Committee.
The latest report by Professor Simon Roberts of the London School of Economics (LSE), who acts as the External Observer of the scheme to review its operation, will be available at the seminar.
About the Scheme
The Mayor's Court Mediation Scheme was created in 2006 by Anthony Connerty at the request of Her Majesty's Court Service (HMCS). The scheme is overseen by a Steering Committee, the members of which include all of the Judges at the Court.
Cases listed for hearing at the court which are considered appropriate for mediation are sent by the judges - with the parties' consent - to the scheme's Administrators, the City Disputes Panel (CDP). A suitable mediator for each case is sought from the mediation providers, approached on a strict rotation basis. The scheme's providers are CIArb, CEDR, In Place of Strife, and the London Court of International Arbitration.
Accommodation for the mediations is provided by the International Dispute Resolution Centre which, like the court, is situated within the City's Square Mile. The court building is located close to the City's ancient Guildhall. The court - which is the court of the Lord Mayor of London - is believed to be able to trace its origins back to Anglo-Saxon times.

The seminar, commencing at 17:30 for 18:00 on Thursday, 18 March 2010, will be held at the International Dispute Resolution Centre, 70 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1EU. The seminar will be followed by a networking reception.
