New CIArb Trustee elected

CIArb News / 01 February 2010

John Wright FCIArb, of Bird and Bird LLP in London, has been appointed as a UK Trustee to succeed Toby Landau QC FCIArb, who resigned due to work commitments.

John is a solicitor and has sat as an arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator and represented parties in numerous disputes for employers, contractors, sub-contractors and construction professionals. Joint head of the Construction and Engineering Group at Bird and Bird, he has many years' experience of both domestic and international arbitration.

A CIArb Fellow since 1991, he has most recently held office as a member of the Practice and Standards Committee and Chair of the PSC Arbitration Sub-Committee. He has also been Chairman and Secretary of the London Branch of CIArb.

As well as arbitration, John has particular interests in mediation, adjudication and dispute boards and hopes to bring insights into these areas of dispute resolution to serve the Board of Trustees.

John said: "I am delighted to have been elected as a UK Trustee. As a highly regarded and respected body, CIArb needs a strong and committed Board of Trustees to set a coherent policy to help consolidate and grow its international reputation. I hope to contribute to the implementation of all parts of the Institute's strategy and particularly to build on my work with the Arbitration Sub-Committee to support the provision of the highest quality educational and training materials."

Steven Certilman FCIArb, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said: "John is a highly experienced arbitrator and party advocate in arbitration. We are pleased to welcome him as a member of the Institute's Board of Trustees."

Steven, an American attorney and chartered arbitrator, has been re-elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for 2010.
