New Trustee for the Middle East and India appointed

A new Trustee for the Middle East and Indian Sub-Continent has been appointed to CIArb's Board of Trustees.
Dr Nayla Comair-Obeid is a CIArb Fellow (FCIArb) and Chartered Arbitrator who was previously Chair of the Lebanon Branch of CIArb. She is a founding partner of Obeid Law Firm and holds a PhD in Business Law with first class honours from Université Paris II (Assas). She is professor of International Arbitration at the Faculty of Law of the Lebanese University.
Appointment
Steven Certilman FCIArb, Chairman of CIArb's Board of Trustees, said: "The Board of Trustees is delighted to be joined by such an accomplished ADR professional. Nayla is an attorney, professor of law and arbitrator who has led the Institute's Lebanese Branch with distinction for many years and we are pleased to welcome her to the Institute's board."
Nayla was appointed to the vacant post of Trustee for the Middle East and Indian Sub-Continent, following the untimely death of the previous post-holder, Dr Mohamed Aboul-Enein, in November 2008.
Arbitration expertise
Dr Comair-Obeid regularly serves as counsel and as sole arbitrator or party-appointed arbitrator in Arabic, French and English language arbitrations. She specialises in international business contracts, Islamic and Middle Eastern legislation, construction contracts and telecommunications, insurance, licensing and franchising contracts.
She is the author of The Law of Business Contracts in The Middle East (Kluwer Law) and numerous publications in Arabic, French and English concerning international contracts and international arbitration. She has been a frequent speaker at legal conferences, seminars and workshops in Lebanon, Paris, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Dubai and Bahrain.
Dr Comair-Obeid will serve as a member of the Board of Trustees until the end of 2010, when new Trustees will be elected for a new four year term.
