The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) is pleased to congratulate Dr Colin Yee Cheng Ong C.Arb, Mr. Robert-Jan Temmink FCIArb, Mr. Alexander Thorpe MCIArb and Mr. Michael McParland MCIArb* on their appointment to Queen’s Counsel.

Presented for excellence in advocacy in the higher courts of England and Wales, this distinguished award is made by Her Majesty the Queen on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, Elizabeth Truss, and the independent Queen’s Counsel selection panel.

113 applicants were successful in the 2016-2017 competition, and each applicant was considered against five competencies: understanding and using law, written and oral advocacy, working with others, diversity and integrity.

Commenting on this year’s success, CIArb Director General, Anthony Abrahams MCIArb, said:

To be appointed as QC is a tremendous achievement. The selection process is renowned for being arduous, and I know the panel has a difficult task each year identifying the most deserving among so many excellent applicants. We at CIArb would like to congratulate each of them on their success.

Mr. Robert-Jan Temmink said of his appointment:

I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed Queen's Counsel after a gruelling 10-month application process. I'm very grateful to clients, colleagues, judges and arbitrators for their support of me as counsel and when acting as an arbitrator. I'm very fortunate to be working with such interesting and exciting people at Quadrant Chambers in a wide range of commercial disputes in multiple jurisdictions which together have provided me with this wonderful opportunity. I look forward to starting the next phase of my professional life as a QC and Fellow of the Chartered Institute in the wide world of international arbitration.

Dr. Colin Ong C.Arb said:

I am delighted to have been appointed Queen’s Counsel. I am grateful to my many colleagues, professional clients and friends who have helped me along the path. I am indebted for the strong support and encouragement of my clerks and colleagues at St Philips Stone Chambers.

The new Queen’s Counsel will formally become silks in a ceremony held on 13 February 2017.

Ends.
