CIArb for first choice, says President

Joe Behan FCIArb has taken office as the new President for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators for 2010. He suceeded Immediate Past-President John Campbell QC FCIArb in January.
Joe said: "It is a great honour to be President of our Institute and I intend, during my term, to see CIArb become the leading worldwide institution in ADR, to have first choice recognition in all areas.
"As your newly elected President, my focus is to take up my role as the ambassador of CIArb with energy and enthusiasm while representing all our members. I am looking forward to visiting as many branches as possible and to ensure that you the members retain a pride in our Institution in order that we all step forward together."
Joe is an experienced practitioner in arbitration, mediation, conciliation and adjudication with a wide ranging practice profile in Ireland and Europe. Based in Dublin, Ireland, he became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 1999 and a Mediation Fellow in 2008.
He is a course director and trainer for the CIArb Arbitration and Mediation entry courses. He also acts as faculty and assessor on the Mediation Accreditation Training Course.
Joe is a council member of the Irish Commercial Mediation Association, certified mediator with the International Mediators Institute and a practitioner member of Mediators Institute Ireland.
Through Behan Dispute Resolution (www.disputeresolution.ie) he delivers mediation training programmes including modules at Maynooth University in Ireland.
He is a Consulting Engineer and Fellow of Engineers Ireland. He is a member and former treasurer of the Association of Consulting Forensic Engineers and has extensive experience as an expert witness for over 20 years.
Joe sits on a variety of both institutional and industrial panels in arbitration, conciliation, mediation and adjudication.
