Akbar has been a practicing Advocate in Pakistan since 2013 and was granted license to practice in the High Courts of Pakistan in 2016. He earned his place as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2017. He subsequently received a Certificate for Executive Negotiation and Conflict Management from ADR-ODR International in 2017 and completed his journey to becoming an Accredited Mediator in UK (CMC) and Singapore (SIMI) in 2019.

Akbar hails from a deeply rooted legal family in Pakistan with his father, the former Chief Justice, currently serving as Advisor to the President of Pakistan, while his family firm, Mandviwala and Zafar is one of the largest and most prestigious firm in South Asia.

Akbar himself has been part of many landmark cases and judgments, more recently, the Panama decision leading to the disqualification of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Nawaz Sharif.

His journey in ADR erupted from his passion while completing his LLM from KOC University, Istanbul as well as during his Graduate studies in the UK earning him a Post-Graduate Certificate from the University of London.

He served as an Advisor and Adjudicator in the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment at the Workplace wherein he mediated and arbitrated on many disputes arising from workplace harassment.

He has also made significant contributions to human rights by working as a Legal Expert on Gender with the UN, a Local Expert with the World Bank on Women, Business and the Law.

His practice which he started independent from his legacy, has ranged from Corporate Advisory, to Aviation, to Defence Procurement and Human Rights. He has advised the Government of Pakistan, the Supreme Court and High Courts of Pakistan, on Rule of Law and its consequences, including being on the Advisory Board of the Asia Foundation in Pakistan, on their Rule of Law project and its execution in partnership with the Judicial Academies, specifically with relation to ADR.
