CIArb is offering its student members a rate of £10 for both its ‘Introduction to ADR’ online training course & online assessment (normal rates of £36 and £95 respectively), as well as free application to Associate membership (ACIArb).

On successful completion of the online assessment, students can apply for Associate membership (ACIArb) and also benefit from an application fee waiver. Limited availability, subject to terms and conditions*.

About the online Introduction to ADR course and assessment

The online ‘Introduction to ADR’ course provides learners with a general understanding of the various methods of dispute avoidance, management and resolution which are alternatives to court proceedings. It covers Arbitration, Conciliation, Construction Adjudication, Early Neutral Evaluation, Expert Determination, MED-ARB, Mediation, Mini-Trial, Negotiation, Neutral Expert Fact-Finding, Ombudsman, Online Dispute Resolution, Private Judging and Summary Jury Trial.

The course is structured in two main sections: a series of interactive learning modules covering the many facets of ADR; and a selection of video scenarios for you to reflect on to deepen your understanding. There are no entry requirements. The course is intended for candidates who are interested in the field of ADR, wish to learn more about ADR and its benefits to users and/or wish to become an Associate member of CIArb.

The assessment is taken online and is comprised of 60 questions selected randomly from a pool. To pass the assessment you will need to achieve a score of 55% (33 marks). You will receive your result immediately after submitting your assessment. Upon passing, you will see the option to print out a certificate confirming that you have passed.

Applicants can submit their membership application online here or download the membership application form here and email to memberservices@ciarb.org with their assessment sheet.

Certificate and post nominals

CIArb will provide an electronic certificate to Associate members and they will be able to use the post-nominal, ACIArb.
