In memoriam: Stephen O’Rourke QC, FCIArb

The Scottish Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators is deeply saddened to announce the untimely death of Stephen O’Rourke QC.  Not only was Stephen a Fellow of the Institute but he has been a Committee member for a number of years and up until recently was the Education Convenor for the Branch.

Torquil Murray, Chair of the Scottish Branch said “Since becoming involved with the CIArb, Stephen gave freely of his time to the Scottish Branch through his role in developing branch education, undertaking lectures and promoting ADR in general. Committee are all devastated on hearing the news. Stephen was a down to earth, entertaining and amiable colleague. He will be sadly missed by committee and the Branch in general. His input will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and those close to him.

From 5-16 September 2022, UNCITRAL Working Group (WG) III and from 10-14 October 2022, UNCITRAL WG II met in Vienna to advance their work on the reform of Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) and on Dispute Settlement respectively.

Ciarb’s NAB & Brazil Branch Join Forces on CSP

Ciarb’s North America (NAB) and Brazil Branches, and the University of  Miami, School of Law, joined forces this year to offer the Capacity Sharing Program (CSP) in three Brazilian regions that are traditionally less exposed to alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
