“A demanding but highly rewarding course, expertly conducted, with sessions presented by practitioners highly experienced in their field. Lots of valuable knowledge gained also from interaction with other participating students, of various backgrounds - who shared experience from different sectors of the maritime industry.” - Captain Dariusz Gozdzik, Independent Maritime Consultant, Leicester Maritime

How is the course delivered?

The Diploma is delivered virtually. It runs from 3 April to 26 June 2024, one day a week (Wednesdays - time to be confirmed).

How will I be assessed?

The Virtual Diploma in International Maritime Arbitration is split into three parts:

Part 1 looks at the legal and practical framework of international maritime arbitration. This includes relevant international instruments, types of arbitration, the powers of an arbitrator and the fundamentals of an enforceable award. It also gives candidates the opportunity to look deeper at discrete themes in international maritime arbitration. The assessment is accessed via Ciarb’s learning platform, LearnADR. You will be given 48 consecutive hours within a five-day window to complete the assessment. You must achieve a minimum overall mark of 65% to pass.

Candidates must take and pass an online exemption test on the common law and civil law of contract and tort before commencing the Part 3 assessment. Existing Fellows of Ciarb are exempt from having to complete Part 2.

Candidates must take and pass an International Maritime Award Writing assessment, which they complete at home and submit via Ciarb’s online platform.
