Pakistan International Disputes Weekend 2024 is Asia's premier legal and industry event for 'reviewing, reflecting and reviving' the global dispute resolution terrain. PIDW's debut convention in May 2023 marked the dynamic participation from around the globe to explore business opportunities in a new jurisdiction such as Pakistan.
PIDW 2024 is a 2 day event co-hosted by the Chartered Institute of Arbitration (Ciarb), the Sindh High Court and the Pakistan Engineering Council in addition to garnering support from Ciarb regional Branches, such as the Ciarb Pakistan Branch, the Ciarb Qatar Branch, the Ciarb Egypt Branch and Ciarb Singapore Branch.
PIDW facilitates international practitioners to explore transnational dispute-related business opportunities through its Business Desk, particularly for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). CPEC is a $100 billion infrastructure and development endeavour. CPEC is Pakistan’s international jewel, embodying the nation's aspirations for economic growth, regional connectivity, and global relevance. This monumental project encompasses a vast array of energy, power, and construction initiatives, which include coal-fired power plants, hydropower projects, wind farms, and solar parks, to name a few.
The infrastructure and power projects under CPEC are executed under the FIDIC Red Book and Silver Book, the disputes awaiting eruption shortly as the project nears its final tiers. FIDIC envisages the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC) as the desired forum for dispute resolution, foreshadowing the outflow of dispute resolution towards an ICC-focused approach. This requirement cultivates a unique opportunity for international practitioners to engage in CPEC business, cultivating a pathway for procuring business opportunities in this mega-billion-dollar project. Therefore, events like the Pakistan International Disputes Weekend are crucial as they offer a platform for engaging with such neutral parties, thereby facilitating effective dispute resolution and connecting the relevant dispute resolution practitioners with the relevant CPEC authorities.
We welcome the rest of the world to join us on the 11 and 12 of May either virtually or in person and becoming part of this exchange of best practices to ‘review, reflect and revive’ our global disputes terrain. Register now!
