Winner CIArb YMG Kenya Essay Competition announced

CIArb YMG Kenya is delighted to announce the winner of its inaugural Essay Competition -  Eric Thige MCIArb. The winner received a cash prize of Kes 35,000 which was given by the CIArb Kenya Chairperson, Mr Calvin Nyachoti, FCIArb Chartered Arbitrator

The competition was sponsored by Professor Tom Ojienda and Associates, a leading Law firm in Nairobi. It was judged by CIArb Africa Trustee, Dr Kariuki Muigua FCIArb.

Eric has been a Member of CIArb for 5 years and is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.  Eric practices commercial and civil litigation, arbitration and mediation.

Commenting on his membership of CIArb, Eric shared that he has benefitted from the networking events with colleagues who are willing to share their experiences and mentor him. Further, the local branch offers great support with reading materials, and referrals to senior arbitrators, for consultation with on arbitration matters.

Eric aims to become a Fellow of CIArb and eventually a Chartered Arbitrator while at the same time imparting his knowledge and experiences on other arbitration practitioners.

Significant progress on Advisory Centre for International Investment Law at UNCITRAL

In 2017, UNCITRAL Working Group III (WGIII) was launched and was tasked with working on procedural reform of the investor state dispute settlement (ISDS) system. From 1-5 April 2024, Ciarb participated in the 48th session of WGIII in its capacity as an observer delegate.
