Ciarb’s Introduction to Mediation course provides you with an understanding of the general principles of this discipline and its relationship to other dispute resolution processes. 

This course enables you to:

  • Understand the background to mediation.
  • Describe the process and procedure of mediation.
  • Understand mediation in the context of other forms of dispute resolution.

On successful completion of the Introduction to Mediation assessment (available separately), you will be eligible to apply for Associate membership of Ciarb (ACIArb) – ideal if you are just starting out on your career in private dispute resolution.

How is the course delivered?

The Introduction to Mediation course is delivered over 1 full day from 09h30 to 17h00 (UK time).

The course will take place at Ciarb’s HQ, located in the heart of London’s historic law district of Holborn. The course provides the opportunity to network directly with a diverse group of candidates, share knowledge and experiences, and build important relationships with like-minded individuals (up to 25 people) keen to learn more about mediation and its benefits. The physical nature and dynamics of the in-person environment will empower your learning experience with interactive and engaging insights into successful mediation practice.

How will I be assessed?

The Introduction to Mediation assessment is available to book separately. It is an online assessment accessed via Ciarb’s learning platform, LearnADR. You are given 28 days to complete and submit the assessment, and must achieve a minimum overall mark of 55% to pass.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements. The course is intended for candidates who:

  • Are new to the field of mediation.
  • Wish to learn more about mediation and its benefits to users.
  • Wish to become an Associate member of Ciarb.
