Personal bio
Mark is a highly experienced arbitrator and construction adjudicator specialising in complex construction, infrastructure, commercial, and real estate dispute resolution. He has delivered over 75 arbitration awards or adjudication determinations, in disputes ranging from $50k to over $10m.
Mark has been appointed both as sole arbitrator and chair of an arbitral tribunal in a wide range of commercial disputes including in relation to construction and infrastructure projects, commercial leases, forestry, real estate, trusts and commercial contracts.
Mark graduated BA/LLB from the University of Canterbury (Christchurch) in 1993, and was admitted as a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1994. Mark completed a LLM (Hons) at the University of Auckland in 2001.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and Fellow and former Council Member of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ). He is also a Fellow of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA).
Mark is a member of numerous arbitral panels including the ICC, ACICA, NZDRC, NZIAC and AMINZ. He is also regularly appointed as arbitrator by the New Zealand Law Society and Law Association of New Zealand.
Mark is one of the founding members of FortyEight Shortland Barristers in the Vero Centre at 48 Shortland Street, in the heart of Auckland’s legal and financial district.
