James MacInnis KC, FCIArb is a senior partner with Nathanson, Schachter & Thompson LLP, where he has practiced commercial litigation for more than 25 years.
James has experience across many industries, including real estate development and leasing, mining, construction, banking, franchises, and professional services, and involving numerous areas of law such as contract disputes, fraud claims, breach of fiduciary and breach of trust claims, and professional negligence claims. Mr. MacInnis has extensive experience dealing with shareholder and partnership disputes.
James graduated as gold medalist from UBC Law School (now Allard School of Law) in 1997 and then served for one year as the law clerk to the Chief Justice of British Columbia, the Honourable Allan McEachern. He has extensive trial and appellate experience and has acted as counsel in numerous mediations and arbitrations. He is committed to ADR as a method for the efficient resolution of commercial disputes.
James regularly acts as a mediator in commercial matters, assisting parties and their legal counsel in the resolution of their disputes. He received his mediation training through Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation.
James is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is available to accept appointments as arbitrator in commercial disputes.
