Ashfak Giffrey is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and construction contracts and commercial management professional with more than 27 years of experience across Sri Lanka, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and holds an LLM in Construction Law, Arbitration and Adjudication.
His experience covers contract administration, claims preparation and assessment, quantum assessment and analysis, variations, extension-of-time and disruption claims, final accounts, cost control and commercial dispute resolution. He has worked for clients, consultants, developers and contractors on major building, infrastructure, marine, utilities, high-rise and nuclear-sector projects.
Ashfak has extensive experience administering FIDIC-based contracts and supporting adjudication, arbitration, mediation and negotiated settlements. His work includes forensic delay analysis, entitlement of the contractor's claims, variations, delay-related costs, contractual entitlement, and damages. He also provides independent commercial and contractual advisory services to organisations seeking to prevent, manage or resolve construction disputes.
In addition to professional practice, he has more than 20 years of teaching experience and has served as a visiting lecturer in quantity surveying, construction contracts and related disciplines. His professional interests include construction adjudication, quantum expert work, dispute avoidance, digital commercial management and effective contract governance.
