Yvonne Renée Carrick has a license to practice law in the states of California, Idaho, and Washington. She is also admitted to practice in the Central District of California, the Eastern District of Washington, the District of Idaho, the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the United States Supreme Court.
Ms. Carrick graduated magna cum laude from Gonzaga University with a Bachelor of Arts. She majored in international studies; minored in Spanish, history, and music (voice and piano); and completed the Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program. Based on her academic achievement, she became a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, a Jesuit Honor Society; Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honor society; and the National Residence Hall Honorary.
Then, Ms. Carrick graduated summa cum laude from Gonzaga University School of Law with a Juris Doctor. She earned CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Business Associations, Comparative Women’s Rights, Constitutional Law I, International Criminal Law, Military Law, and Transactional Skills and Professionalism Lab. While at Gonzaga University School of Law, she was also an associate editor for the Gonzaga Journal of International Law as well as a Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition team member. After joining the Connelly Chapter of the international law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta during her second year of law school, Ms. Carrick became the Vice Justice for the Connelly Chapter for her third year of law school. During her third year of law school, Ms. Carrick was also the Vice President of Gonzaga University School of Law’s Animal Legal Defense Fund.
While studying at Gonzaga University School of Law, Ms. Carrick participated in two study abroad programs. First, she completed Gonzaga University School of Law’s Florence Summer Law Program. She attended a presentation by the International Criminal Court trial lawyer Jean-Jacques Badibanga. She also toured and attended a seminar at the Robert F. Kennedy International House of Human Rights. As part of Creighton University School of Law’s “From Nuremberg to The Hague” Summer Program, Ms. Carrick visited the ICC, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and the International Court of Justice. She met Judge Betram Schmitt of the ICC and Judge Christoper Greenwood of the International Court of Justice. While visiting the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia, she listened to a hearing in the Stanisic and Simatovic case. She also visited Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice, which is where major Nazi war criminals were tried.
Most recently, Ms. Carrick graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2023 with a Master of Laws in International Business and Economic Law; she also earned a Transnational Law and Business Certificate. Due to her academic performance, she became a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Ms. Carrick also earned the highest grade in her International Negotiations and Mediation class. Ms. Carrick was an LLM representative for Intellectual Property and Technology Law, Fashion and Beauty Law, and Gould Art Law Societies.
Ms. Carrick has work experience as a legal intern at Gonzaga University School of Law’s General Practice and Indian Law Clinic, a staff attorney in a judicial clerkship, a legal researcher and associate in a small law firm, and as of counsel in a small law firm.
The Gonzaga University School of Law General Public Practice and Indian Law Clinic provides free legal services to the members of the Spokane, Washington community and to members of the Kalispel tribe. Ms. Carrick was a legal intern for three semesters. Under the supervision of a professor, she provided direct representation to clients in matters involving business law, intellectual property, family law, veterans' rights, and estate planning and administration. She drafted various legal documents such as complaints, a motion to reopen, a petition to change a residential schedule, declarations, parenting plans, and a response to a petition for guardianship. Most significantly, she prepared a successful motion to retain and exercise jurisdiction in a UCCJEA case involving a Native American tribe. Her ability to speak Spanish was of great use when assisting Spanish-speaking clients.
After graduating from Gonzaga University Schol of Law, Ms. Carrick was a staff attorney in a one-year judicial clerkship for Judge Melissa Moody in the District Court of the Fourth Judicial District of the State of Idaho in Ada County. During her judicial clerkship with Judge Moody, she worked on both civil cases and criminal cases. She prepared research memoranda, jury instructions, and numerous kinds of orders.
Following her clerkship, Ms. Carrick was a legal researcher and associate at Duke Evett, PLLC. Types of cases on which she worked included fraud, real estate, misrepresentation, breach of contract, and products liability. She prepared such documents as research memoranda, memoranda supporting motions, trial briefs, appellate briefs, jury instructions, witness lists, exhibit lists, requests for discovery, discovery responses, and settlement agreements. She also prepared a successful appellate brief on behalf of a defendant in a products liability case before the Idaho Supreme Court.
Currently, Ms. Carrick is working as of counsel for Chip Matthews Law Office A Prof. Corp. She has prepared research memoranda on numerous legal issues, including arguing for a cause of action to be tried by a jury and arguing for a temporary restraining order on real property. She also composed a thirty-six-page complaint with fifteen causes of action in a complex elder fraud case involving a PACE Program.
In addition to the American Bar Association, Ms. Carrick is also a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Spokane County Bar Association, Idaho State Bar, State Bar of California Lawyers Association, Beverly Hills Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, and Phi Alpha Delta.
Ms. Carrick has several roles in the American Bar Association. For the America Bar Association Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division (GPSolo), she is a 2024-2025 GPSolo Division Young Lawyers Fellow. She attends monthly virtual meetings as well as in-person conferences to discuss encouraging involvement in the GPSolo Division and how to provide helpful resources to members.
In addition, for the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (YLD), Ms. Carrick is a 2024-2025 YLD Awards/Subgrants Team Associate Judge and a 2024-2025 YLD Legal Pathway & Law Student Outreach Team Member. As a 2024-2025 YLD Awards/Subgrants Team Associate Judge, she helps select recipients of awards and subgrants. As a 2024-2025 YLD Legal Pathway & Law Student Outreach Team Member, she has attended monthly virtual meetings discussing how to increase membership and provide helpful resources to members. In 2025, the YLD section is focusing on upcoming changes to the bar exam. Ms. Carrick also come up with ideas for a variety different events; she has thought of ways that other sections of the American Bar Association could collaborate on these events.
Furthermore, Ms. Carrick is involved with the Los Angeles County Bar Association. She is the 2024-2026 Los Angeles County Bar Association Barristers/Young Attorneys (BYA) Section Liaison to the Real Property Section. She attends the Los Angeles County Bar Association Real Property Section meetings and reports back to the Barristers/Young Attorneys (BYA) Section.
Ms. Carrick enjoys world travel. She has visited Austria, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Monaco, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland. Through Gonzaga University, Ms. Carrick has completed two CLE programs in Italy: the 2019 Gonzaga Wine Institute Italian Experience and the 2024 Gonzaga Law in Florence Alumni Experience.
Ms. Carrick speaks English and Spanish fluently, and she is currently learning French. She took two semesters of French at the University of Southern California.
Ms. Carrick loves music. She can sing and play the piano. She enjoys singing in choirs, including the University of Southern California University Chorus.
