Personal bio
Julien Chaisse is a Professor and RGC Senior Research Fellow at the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). He is a leading authority on international economic law, dispute resolution, and the interaction between law, emerging technologies, and the data-driven economy. His interdisciplinary research integrates law, economics, technology, and international relations, addressing both established trade and investment matters and the regulation of the digital economy. He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of World Investment & Trade and the Asia Pacific Law Review, and writes the “Global Lawyer” column for the Financial Times’ fDI Intelligence Magazine. Recognized among Stanford University Top 2% Most Highly Cited Scientists every year since 2023.
Beyond his academic roles, Dr. Chaisse’s expertise as a senior arbitrator is recognised through appointments with major arbitration institutions, including DIAC, SIAC, SHIAC, HKIAC, ADNDRC, AALCO, and XAAC, as well as his inclusion on the EU List of Experts Suitable for Appointment as Arbitrators. Over his career, he has advised on trade, investment, and tax treaty negotiations and on the drafting and reform of domestic legislation in more than 30 jurisdictions.
