Personal bio
Dr Matthew Secomb is a partner in White & Case’s International Arbitration Group in Singapore. He is also Head of International Arbitration (Asia Pacific). Matthew focuses on energy-related and construction disputes. He has been involved in arbitrations under most of the major arbitral rules, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations.
He acts regularly as arbitrator, having sat as chair, co-, sole- and emergency arbitrator under various rules including the AIAC, DIAC ICC, LCIA, HKIAC, SIAC and UNCITRAL Rules.
Matthew spent ten years in White & Case’s Paris office before moving to Singapore in 2015. Before joining White & Case, he was Counsel to the ICC Court of Arbitration (2001-2005).
Matthew was educated at the Universities of Fribourg (Dr iur (summa cum laude)) and Melbourne (BCom, LLM.), and Deakin University (LLB (hons)).
He is an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Singapore (Energy Arbitration) and an Adjunct Lecturer at Queen’s University (International Commercial Arbitration). He is the author of one book – Interest in International Arbitration (OUP, 2019) – and various book chapters, articles etc.
Matthew is an avocat à la cour at the Paris bar, a solicitor-advocate in England & Wales and a barrister and solicitor in Victoria, Australia. He is fluent in English and French, and speaks conversational German.
