Personal bio
I am an arbitrator, mediator and experienced Tribunal judge. I hold a chair in Dispute Process Law at the University of Aberdeen.
I have been appointed as sole arbitrator and as arbitral chair in commercial cases.
I have chaired over 1000 judicial evidential hearings, leading to written reasoned decisions, both alone and as part of multi-disciplinary tribunal panels. All hearings have involved documentary and oral evidence, both of fact and opinion (expert evidence). I have case managed hundreds of additional judicial cases. This has all given me extensive experience of handling formal dispute processes.
I have delivered extensive judicial training, and I have taken part in judicial recruitment rounds. I work as an in-house legal member for a tribunal, working on judicial policy, management advice and training.
I have handled over 20 mediations in commercial, family, employment and education cases.
I have published books, book chapters and articles on litigation, arbitration, mediation and the law of evidence.
I have taught dispute resolution and the law of evidence for 20 years.
I have a consultancy offering dispute resolution services: Auchie Dispute Resolution, www.resolve-dispute.co.uk.
