Personal bio
Yuksel Sahin, LL.M., MCIArb, is an Istanbul-based attorney specialising in domestic and international arbitration, litigation, and contentious and non-contentious matters relating to shipping, offshore, logistics and transport.
He has acted as counsel in numerous arbitrations under the LMAA, ICC and UNCITRAL rules, both in Türkiye and abroad, and has gained considerable experience as an arbitrator, including appointments as sole arbitrator and as chairman.
Alongside his contentious practice, Yuksel continuously advises clients on all aspects of commercial agreements and transport-related matters, from drafting and negotiating charterparties, contracts of carriage and logistics agreements to advising on cargo claims, marine casualties and P&I matters. His broader practice covers supply, agency and distribution agreements across industries such as shipping, construction, automotive, pharmaceuticals, securities and finance, with particular strength in Turkish banking and finance law. In recent years he has focused on disputes arising from the sale and purchase of larger vessels, including oil tankers and trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs), as well as charterparty and cross-border enforcement matters.
Yuksel holds an LL.M. in Shipping Law from Cardiff University, with further studies at the LSE, and an LL.M. from Istanbul University. Prior to private practice, he qualified as a Foreign Economic Activity Specialist (Специалист ВЭД) with the Ural Customs Administration of the Russian Federation, giving him first-hand insight into customs, trade compliance and cross-border logistics disputes.
A dual citizen of Türkiye and Bulgaria (EU), he works at native level in English, Turkish, Bulgarian and Russian, and is well placed to handle disputes spanning Türkiye, the EU and the wider Black Sea and Balkan region.
