Personal bio
Independent international lawyer, arbitrator and mediator, based in Geneva.
After nearly 30 years advising States and globally active businesses on international trade, investment and public international law — including a decade as a Sidley Austin partner — I launched Iain Sandford Legal & Dispute Resolution in Geneva (www.isandford.com).
I work on two tracks:
• As neutral: I am available for appointment as arbitrator or mediator, including in investment treaty arbitrations (ISDS), disputes under trade treaties (including WTO dispute settlement), and international commercial matters — under institutional and ad hoc rules.
• As counsel: I advise States and internationally active businesses on trade law matters, particularly subsidies and agricultural support, sanctions, trade remedies, IP, and the interface between trade and other areas of regulation (environment, SPS, security). I represent clients in WTO dispute settlement, investment matters, and proceedings before the ICJ and ITLOS.
