Personal bio
Masood has acted as counsel and advisor in both ad-hoc and institutional arbitration under SCAI, KCAB, ICC rules, and MPC Arbitration Regulations since 2015. Additionally, he has served as a sole, presiding, and co-arbitrator as well as a mediator in numerous domestic and international commercial cases.
Previously, Masood was the representative of the Secretary General of the Arbitration Center of the Iran Chamber of Commerce (ACIC), where he was responsible for provincial office affairs as well as director of education. Masood also served as legal counsel at the Tehran Regional Arbitration Centre (TRAC), where I played a key role in drafting the new arbitration rules in 2018.
Masood has acted as an arbitrator in both the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and Vis East Moot in preliminary and elimination rounds. He was a member of the first Iranian Vis Moot team, which won the "Spirit of the Vis Moot Award" in 2015.
Masood has also extensive experience in international commercial and investment law, having held leadership positions in domestic and international legal affairs at various Iranian companies in industries such as automotive, transportation, food and dairy, construction, and oil and petrochemicals. These companies include Iran Khodro-Peugeot Automotive (IKAP), Saipa Automotive Group, Iran Railways (RAI), Iran Dairy Industry Commercial Co. (Pegah), Aftab Oil Refining, Pasargad Oil Company, and Sefi Group of Companies. As a legal consultant, Masood has advised numerous Asian and EU companies, such as Samsung, Lufthansa, and illy Caffè, on domestic law, international commercial law, and foreign investment. He has provided comprehensive legal and commercial services to a significant number of venture capital and start-up companies in Iran.
Since 2017, Masood has been giving lectures on international commercial law, arbitration, negotiation strategies, and capital market law at Allameh Tabatabai University (ATU) in Tehran. He is also a lecturer at the Industrial Management Institute of Iran (IMI), which is accredited by well-established international bodies and has been active in Iran's economy for over half a century. He teaches courses on domestic contracts law and international commercial contracts at IMI.
Masood has authored and translated several publications on international commercial arbitration and international sale of goods.
