Dr. Nasiruddeen Muhammad (LL B, BL, LL M, Ph D, MCIarb) is both a scholar and practitioner specialising in Commercial and Investment Arbitration. He is a qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria with 24 years’ PQE, possessing expertise in Domestic, International, and Comparative Law; International Economic Law; and Energy and Natural Resources Law and Policy. His academic and professional interests extend across the African and Middle Eastern regions.
Dr. Muhammad recently joined the College of Law at Abu Dhabi University as an Assistant Professor in Commercial Law. Before this appointment, he spent almost a decade at the University of Dubai, making significant contributions to legal education, research, and academic programme development and serving in various capacities, including Program Director (LLB), Adviser to the President on Legal Matters, University-wide Chair of the Institutional Review Committee (IRB), and as a member of various University and College committees.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Muhammad held various professional and academic roles. He served as Counsel at Dikko & Mahmoud Solicitors in Nigeria and as a Senior State Programme Officer with Security, Justice and Growth (SJG), a DFID-funded pro-poor justice sector reform initiative managed by the British Council in Nigeria, where he oversaw the Kano office. He has also worked as a tutor for the CEPMLP LLM Distance Learning Programme at the University of Dundee (United Kingdom). Additionally, he practised as a Partner at Tri-NASR Solicitors. Dr Muhammad transitioned to full-time academia in 2015 by joining Bayero University in Kano, Nigeria.
Throughout his career, Dr Muhammad has published widely, including in prestigious journals, spoken on various legal topics, served as an arbitrator, and represented clients before Appellate Courts, High Courts, and Arbitral Tribunals. His work bridges academic research with practical law, particularly in commercial and investment arbitration, international economic law, law and technology, and energy and resources law and policy.
Dr. Muhammad is an active member of several national and international professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the International Bar Association (IBA), the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), London, and the Society for International Economic Law (SIEL).
