Personal bio
Josiah Chan is an Ontario Barrister and Solicitor at O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP, with a strong background in public law, civil litigation, and commercial dispute resolution. He has attended hearings before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
Prior to being a lawyer, Josiah served as a Law Clerk at the Crown Law Office – Civil, Ministry of the Attorney General, where he was recognized as Best Business Professional (2023). In this role, he supported complex civil litigation and public law files, including Civil Remedies Act matters, managed extensive disclosure and e-discovery, prepared facta and motion records exceeding 3,000 pages, and handled over 200 Rule 30.10 (“Wagg”) disclosure requests. He routinely commissioned affidavits, conducted advanced legal research, and coordinated with external vendors for litigation support.
Josiah completed his Juris Doctor with credit at the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong. Josiah further completed a Global Professional LL.M. from the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. His education has allowed him to obtain the National Committee on Accreditation of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada (NCA).
Josiah is a mooter and advocated in the 29th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and advancing to the top 16 teams globally.
Fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, Josiah brings a cross-jurisdictional perspective, strong advocacy skills, and a demonstrated commitment to public service and litigation excellence.
