Dr. Ahmed Elsharkawy is a senior Judge at the Egyptian Appellate Courts with over two decades of judicial experience in adjudicating complex commercial, corporate, and economic disputes. His judicial practice covers a broad spectrum of high-value matters, including shareholder and joint venture disputes, banking and financial litigation, capital markets and stock exchange disputes, investment-related disputes, competition-related cases, and regulatory conflicts, often involving sophisticated legal and economic dimensions.
Dr. Elsharkawy holds a PhD in Commercial Law, with a specialized academic focus on Competition Law, particularly the regulation of dominant market positions, abuse of dominance, and merger control. His academic work reflects sustained engagement with the interaction between legal regulation, market structure, and economic governance, with particular attention to comparative and policy-oriented perspectives.
In parallel with his judicial career, Dr. Elsharkawy is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb) and is actively engaged in the field of international commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. His professional interests include arbitration and ADR across complex commercial, corporate, and investment disputes, encompassing joint venture and shareholder conflicts, banking and financial disputes, infrastructure and energy projects, intellectual property rights, competition and antitrust matters, and regulatory disputes. His experience and interests also extend to disputes arising out of international sale of goods contracts (including CISG-related matters), maritime and shipping disputes (including charterparty, carriage of goods by sea, and related commercial shipping claims), and investor–State disputes under bilateral and multilateral investment treaties.
