Ciarb to co-host early careers in international arbitration event for law students and young practitioners

Ciarb, the UK branch of the European Law Students' Association (ELSA) and the Ciarb London Branch Young Member’s Group are co-hosting an event for Ciarb and ELSA members on how to carve out a career in international arbitration as an arbitrator, counsel, expert witness or consultant.
The event, which will be held on Thursday 12 February at Ciarb’s HQ, will explore career pathways in international arbitration, how to get your first appointment as an arbitrator, the routes into arbitration practice, and the criteria institutions use for appointing arbitrators. A panel discussion led by experts and experienced practitioners will be followed by a Q&A session and networking drinks reception.
Ciarb’s Chair of the Board of Trustees, Ben Giaretta C.Arb FCIArb, a speaker at the event, said: “This will be a valuable event for people contemplating, or in the early stages of, a career in international arbitration. I will talk about my experiences during my career to date and suggest some practical tips that people might follow in their own careers.
I’ll also talk about the value of Ciarb to careers in arbitration, and the value of other ways to promote oneself, including on LinkedIn, in publications, and academic qualifications. Finally, I will discuss the ways in which one might position oneself in order to obtain arbitrator appointments in the future.”
The event’s moderator, Natasha King, said: “This should be a great opportunity for students and early career professionals to get an insight into the work of counsel, arbitrators, and experts in international arbitration. I am grateful to Ciarb for hosting what I am sure will be an enjoyable and enlightening discussion with our superb selection of panellists.”
